No, Mactruck, I don't think it is "killing" Corvette sales. The horrid sales the Corvette is experiencing are, as mentioned, are probably more due to the economy than anything else. The GS should help for 2010 MY.
Buuuuhhhhhhttt, there are buyers that instead of a $36,000 SS might have bought a Corvette for $56,000 or more. Some buyers wanted the newest, coolest car in the showroom and arguably that is the Camaro. So, YES, it it probably impacting sales somewhat. I haven't seen a number internally that would say how much but it would be silly to suggest the Camaro hasn't hurt the Corvette sales a bit.
Now back to comparing how an LS3 Corvette is better than an LS3 Camaro......................

Unlike, Number 3, I have seen the numbers and he is exactly right. These are two vehicles that serve completely different market segments with 2 different buyers demographically. The economy is the main culprit, not the Camaro. Yes, there is some interplay among these two cars at the fringe, but not much as some might think.
GM surveys customers as to what vehicle they would have purchased if the Camaro was not available. This 2nd choice data gives us an indication as to how much these two cannibalize each other. We also look at reverse 2nd choice. These are people who buy a Corvette (or something else) and list Camaro as their second choice. Yes, there are some Chevy customers who bleed bowtie and have multiple performance cars who might have purchased another Vette to add to the stable if the Camaro wasn't available. There are also some that do indeed "buy down" from Corvette because they want to try the C5 Camaro. Bottom line...there are not a lot of people in either group.
I work for Chevy, have a choice and can afford either. I love both cars, but own a Camaro because it fits my life stage better. I need back seats for the kids and enough trunk space to haul their gear. Even if I didn't, I might still prefer the Camaro. While the Vette is an all around better performance machine with a more refined driving experience, I actually have more fun driving a Camaro because it IS a little more raw. I like that.
