TRUST me. It's better Canada than mexico!!
In 2002, I bought a marvelous piece of German engineering -- a VW Jetta.
Wanna know how to ruin German engineering? Assemble it in mexico. This was years before I discovered edmunds.com and all their customer reviews. In the first year that I owned that car, it was in the shop 7 times. One of those times was for an engine coil recall.
Anyway, 2 years after I bought the BRAND NEW Jetta, I was getting rid of it. It died on me and the service tech had the audacity to tell me that the battery and electrical system were 'unrelated.' (And this was after the tow truck driver said he towed about 6 a day.) After I traded out of the car, I went onto edmunds.com to check out the reviews that I "should" have looked at prior to the purchase.
In the "suggested improvements" section there were things such as:
"No drinking on the assembly line."
"Stop making them in mexico."
"Trade yours in before the warranty expires."
I'll take a car assembled in Canada ANY day before I'll take one from mexico again.
To this day, you can go to edmunds.com, type in 2002 Jetta and read horrible reviews from people who bought my model used thinking they were getting a good deal on good car. They are still griping up a storm.
