Exactly.
Plus to make Toyotas case worse, people had died, and continued to die while they blamed floor mats. GM volunteered a recall up after 14 crashes and one injury. GM has always had voluntary recalls, you can't manufacture as many vehicles as Honda, Toyota, GM, or Ford and have them all be perfect.
What you can do is fess up that there's a problem, and fix it. GM learned this leason, not from Toyotas recent troubles, but from their own troubles years back. Unfortunately, there are still dealers out there that didn't get the memo.
