Personally I think it really comes down to you knowing your son. I have a 17 yr old daughter that I will be teaching how to drive stick shift in my SS. Although this is not going to be her car, I think that I know her well enough that I would be able to trust her to drive my car and be respectful of the power it has. I'm not in a position that I can afford to buy a new 5th gen for her 1st car so we are most likely going to get her a used 4th gen.
