IMO, a 16 yo has little if no business behind the wheel of this type of car (or anything generating that much hp or torque, even the V6). While he may be a very responsible young man, the second you put that kind of temptation out there, it becomes a challenge to show off in front of friends, or worse, to end up in a drag match with someone who pulls up alongside him and "dares him" to race. There are enough guys here on this website in the 18-24 category who already fall into this category, and a few who have been lucky that when using poor judgement, all they did was total the car.
Get a reliable secondhand vehicle for a learning experience - once he graduates from college and you still want to reward him for his achievements (and he still wants this car), pay 1/2 and let him pay for the rest. He'll appreciate it more. And too bad if "all the other kids are getting new cars."
