To those saying this is a "waste of money". There's a couple of things you have to remember.

1) The price the government pays is not what you pay. They get a discounted rate due to volume sales (Most states do a "state bid" where all vehicle purchases, from any company, are done as one large order)

2) Regular Impalas/Chargers/Crown Vics are not as cheap as people think they are. I've seen the window sticker for our departments Impalas, and even with the discounts they're in the mid 20's range.

Now, for those saying they wouldn't pull over, some advice. Driving to a police station is probably not your best bet. Your best option is to drive to the FIRST well lit public area (Parking lot of a business that's open) and then stop. Roll down your window enough to speak with the officer and the you can verify via badge and ID that the person is an officer.

We've had 3 people in the last year try to pass their non-marked cars off as police officers, they've all been caught in the first day they've done it. You're certainly welcome to verify via ID or calling dispatch, however I wouldn't drive long distances to a police station to pull over.

Oh, one last thing...the person wondering about a back seat. This car will, in my estimation, be used for traffic enforcement. Much like an officer on the motor squad who does traffic from his motorcycle. In the rare case they have someone who needs to go to jail, a patrol unit is called to do the transport for them.
