It's not a good idea to use density altitude to correct observed HP numbers. The SAE HP correction equation treats temperature differently than the DA equation.
- SAE is the square root of the temperature ratio.
- DA is just the ratio.
The reference points are also different.
- 59F, 0% RH, and 29.92 baro pressure for the DA.
- 77F, 0% RH, and 29.235 baro pressure for the SAE.
In addition, the SAE correction equation has an imperical slope adjustment for extremely good or bad conditions like you have (was 1.18 but more recently changed to 1.177).
Bottom line, use and believe the SAE correction method.
