The new Camaro may not be a person's last car, but it may quite possibly be the last high performance V8 coupe they ever have. I truly think that the Camaro SS, Challenger R/T and SRT8, and Mustang GT will mark the end of the current musclcar era. Whatever follows these models will have been developed to better fit the 35 mpg CAFE standards (legislated in 2007 with graduated implementation from 2012 to 2020) and will be limited by the current economic woes of all the American carmakers.
I do not
need another car. I drive my '87 Fiero GT daily to work (3 miles each way) and have three "hobby" cars already. But I'm saving to buy a new Camaro SS/RS a couple years from now, before musclecars are gone again. I just need to make sure that I get one before engine displacement and/or horsepower is reduced from the current 422hp LS3 6-speed manual.
