Like he said, it's usually between less common vehicles. If a V6 owner were to wave at me, I'd wave back.
The reason owners of less common cars wave at eachother is because there's more of a chance that the guy driving the other SS or whatever car is because they're more likely to be an enthusiast as they've bought the high performance model.
Or in the case of the GTO, there are only 18000 or so made a year so if someone owns one it's usually because they sought one out.
On the other hand, there's the Mustang. People buy them because they're the hot car to have and they don't really care anything more than that and looks, so the car means nothing to them. And generally there's no sense of community among Mustang owners. At least not that I've seen. I guess it's because there's so many that there's more rivalry than anything else.
