I think the point is that , yes the box keeps the heat out. But, the metal tube is more heat conductaive then plastic. So if the engine bay is really hot, you might get more heat conduction to the air as it flows through the tube.

Remember the plastic stock intake with the plastic tube?

The CAI intake tube is ceramic coated and better at shielding against heat soak than the plastic tube intakes.
