Cool Camaro V6 Removal of Resonators

I have been told by my local mechanic that an inexpensive way to cure the quiet muffler sound and make it lower/deeper is to remove the resonators from the muffler. He told me they were duplicated in the muffler system and it would surely help to "bring the noise".

If this is true, has anyone done it? He was going to charge me $100.00 to do it. I also wanted to have him do an H pipe at the same time if possible. Would that help the sound/flow?

And finally, I dont want my car to sound like a Colbalt guy down the street that when he drives by everyone shakes their head since it's sounds more like a rice rocket. I just wanted to add a little more deep sound to it.

Any suggestions (other than "Buy a full exhaust") would be greatly appreciated!
