No, all the steering controls work the same. I have a switch for my amp/clean sweep that has a power on/off function as well as output level. In a way it is similar to having a volume control on a subwoofer so you can fine tune the level for different genres of music or talk radio without having to go to the trunk. You could just pick an output level that works well for most genres, leave it there and control everything through the factory stereo. The way mine is set up, if I have the amp/clean sweep off completely the factory system only controls the center speaker. Once its on, I can set the output level. At low levels the center channel dominates, at higher levels the other four speakers and subwoofer dominate. Initially, I had to play with all the controls till I figured out where I like it. Now I pretty much know, and really it's not that complicated, but since I never had one before it took some getting used to. The sound is phenominal. It is crystal clear at all volume levels if set up right, and goes as loud as any aftermarket setup I've ever had!
