I have serious issues with assuming that GM didn't know all of this way ahead of time. They had to have known the initial orders were going to be from a enthusiast core group, and that the majority would be SS's.
Now, if they had been advertising the car non-stop for months, and this was happening, I would be more concerned. But I have a great deal of confidence that they expected the numbers to be like this. Maybe not 84%, but I would bet they had considered more than a 50/50 split. And due to the small amount of cars ordered in a 2 week period (in relation to a mass marketing campaign), I can't see there being a problem filling orders, especially with production not starting for 4 months.
