The people who preorder a car before they can even drive it will be enthusiasts. Most enthusiasts will want the top model also a disproportionate amount of manual transmissions from the norm.
Seems pretty obvious that this would be the case so I can't see why GM thought all the early adopters would want V-6 autos. Once full production is under way and someone stops by the dealer in April because they saw the commercial of the new camaro then sure lots of v-6s but from the start? They should have figured on at least 75% v-8 with 40/60 auto/manual.
