If she can afford that just about any new car wouldn't be out of the question but she doesn't drive and uses public transit and walking.

Well, we don't all live in Canada, take public transportation in a lot of places in the US and you are putting your life on the line, or at least your wallet. Plus we are quite spread out here, so public transportation is pretty useless to a lot of people.
