Sometimes if there is excess oil on the rubber seal of a filter a tiny bit will leak out when it heats up and expands. Usually if you keep an eye on it, it should stop after the first time you drive it.

I wouldn't use an oil filter tool to tighten an oil filter, they are designed to seal hand tight. Clamping them down too much will actually increase the chances of the seal going bad, not to mention make it a pain in the ass to get off the next time. If you had a honest leak from a filter it would be a much better idea to just replace the filter from the start.
