The 5.0 is pretty maxxed out. The 4.6 is going to be the better mod motor, more boost friendly and bolt-on friendly. With that said, even with every bolt on possible you're going to be quite a few hp short from the 5.0.
I highly doubt that the 4.6 will be the better one to mod... It shouldn't be long before the forged rods, cranks, and lower compression pistons are all available in a crate version of the new 5.0... No doubt they'll be plenty boost friendly. I'll take the better breathing 4 valve head and more modern/refined bottom end, thanks. Nothing against a single cam pushrod engine when it's set up for a single purpose, but there's a pretty good argument for variable cam timing between both intake and exhaust. Funny how you can make a 5 liter perform like a 6 liter that way... And still get better mileage than a 4 liter used to.
