What is everyone's thoughts on this?
Not to start an argument or demean anyone, but this is a selfish consideration... The tradgedy is the loss of life, and the environmental damage, not what is going to happen our driving habits.

I personally knew a couple of the guys on that rig... and the implied "OMG I wont be able to drive my Camaro" concept never entered my mind until it was brought up here... Ok, so what...

Environmental activist and legislators with no clue are the 2nd biggest force driving the price of oil. The biggest are the speculators that have nothing to do with the industry... We work under the most stringent guidelines of almost any industry... Unfortunately, when dealing with mother nature, nothing is foolproof. Do not blame BP, nor Transocean... Incidents and accidents do and will continue to happen. We try our best, but sometimes mother nature fights back and we loose... If your concerns are that BP screwed up, then you do not understand the industry... They are probably one of the leading safety companies in the world. They learned from a number of incidents in the 90's, mostly on land at refineries...Nothing is fool proof...as for the environmentalist, if you wanna start talking, then first start walking... These micro-mini death box's you drive do not qualify in my book. Where do the old batteries go, how much petroleum product is used to manufacture them...???? etc...

Obama (while I'm not a fan of him) just approved more offshore drilling. Shit happens, everyone knows it, the oil can be cleaned up. Knee jerk reactions to stuff like this to change the entire energy policy aren't gonna happen, thats why they run the country and we don't.
Think... homeland security act, no liquid bottles over three ounces, etc... Knee jerk reactions are the norm...
