A good question - with an answer!
When you put leather or vinyl on a surface that could come in contact with the console, you will get an "itch" -- the 'sound' of the leather or vinyl 'itching' against the side of the console. (...usually won't happen with a 95 lb driver - but with some of us larger guys, it will...) therefore, a special material is used so that when it comes in contact with the console, you don't hear the 'itch' noise.........
