Next time you're out of town, how about I park in your driveway? You're gone so it's no inconvenience to you, so that makes it all okay, right?
You can believe whatever you want, but the fact of the matter is, you have no such "right." You have the right to park however you want in your own driveway, but unless the parking lot belongs to you, your parking in it is a
privilege, one dependent on your following the rules, regardless of whether you think you're inconveniencing anyone or not: don't go through the lot at 60mph, don't park in reserved or handicapped spots or where it says "No Parking", and do park between the lines, not over them. It's the parking lot owner who has all the rights - including the one to have your car towed or booted if you're taking up four spots at the periphery of the lot, if he so wishes. The fact that the people owning parking lots don't go after you doesn't mean you have a right they're just busy doing something else.
Try and defend taking up multiple spots all you want for whatever "my car is too pretty to be breathed on much less parked next to" reason you can think of, but don't go around creating imaginary rights to excuse it. That attitude is way more problematic for the rest of us than simple, "there's a rule but I don't care" arrogance.
