The manufacturing plant in Canada that makes the Nickel Metal Hydride batteries for the Prius is one of the worst polluting chemical plants in the world.
There is more than a 10 mile dead-zone radius around the plant due to all the chemicals that are spewing from the battery production which involves smelting nickel metal. The acid rain is so bad that everything is completely dead. NASA uses the area for teating of lunar vehicles, since its the closest thing to the moon's surface.
I'll stick to my car which at worst adds CO2 to the atmosphere. The oil spill is a result of a company being neglagent and not maintaining the rig, not a result of people using the fuel the way it was intended.
