Thanks for all of the comments..........topgun1, you got that right. Mine kicks in and out if I'm going 30 mph or 60 mph....it sounds pretty good when I keep my foot in the gas, but as soon as you reach a cruising speed or start going up a hill it kicks it in.
The factory exhaust is so quiet, it is no comparison to the Mustang GT. The Corvette is also too quiet. I put Dynatech headers and B&B exhaust on the Corvette and that solved the sound issue. I wasn't about to invest in headers if the AFM was still going to kick in and out on the Camaro.
As far as a loss, I am taking one. The big loss is that my current car has a sunroof with the automatic. That's about $2,700 worth of options my new one will not have. The new one will have every option other than those two items. It's always said that if you drive a car off of the lot, it becomes a used car. I had people tell me they would guess $7-8,000 difference.....I'm going around $2,000 cash + my loss of the two options. I have talked to Chevy about my disappointment with the car and that I was never made aware that the L99 had the AFM. All I knew was the L99 was about 26 hp less than the LS3. I will be discussing my thoughts about the AFM...they would not authorize having the AFM turned off. Obviously, all I know is that if I had wanted a "Hybrid", I would have bought a Prius...........a muscle car should be just that...V8 with all 8 cylinders working!
