Never, ever take two spots...you're just asking for trouble (by taking two spots you're advertising that my car is better than yours and I don't want you to ding it...and you know what that does?).
Just find an end spot further out...and get an end spot where your passenger door is on the side where no one can park...chances are the car that does park next to you will get out on their driver side only and never open a door into your car.
