Just curious, how old are you? Is this your first car?

I bought both my kids their first cars; my daughter got a new 2006 Scion tC, and my son got a new 2008 Scion tC. I picked the cars, as I was paying for them, and I made sure they both had the all the extra airbags.

They got cars they could mod if they wanted, they were good 4 bangers that got decent mileage, and I knew that with their displacement, they weren't going to kill themselves with a lot of power.

If I had to get them a car today as their first, or if they were in their mid teens, I wouldn't buy them a V8 Camaro.

...and if he's paying for 15-20K of it, he's paying for most of it.

I agree with your theory. But I read an article about the cars with the highest crash (and insurance cost) rating: Honda Civic, Scion tc, and Hyundia Tiburon.

Last year, I hooked a 20 year old employee up with a new 2008 Tiburon 4 cylinder. 7 weeks later it was totaled...a week later...he died...( in a different wreck . his 16 year old sister was driving, 80+ in a 45 zone)
