That being said, I think you do take more of a risk by taking two spots. Park with one side protected by an Island, and park as close to the island as possible. That's what I do.
Parking in two spots is more likely to piss other people off. No need to provoke them. Keep the car between the lines...that's my motto.

I've been doing the same thing with every car I drive. Never take 2 spots, park as far away as possible or better yet, as close to an island as possible. BUT, the camero is never left alone anywhere...
