I also believe that it is a visibility issue for a new driver. He might have felt cramped and saw little to no visibility, comming from a benz, beemer guy. He might have concluded that it is a big beast meant to go straight only.
I suggest that it is now time to have a mature talk with your dad regarding all 3 vehicles. I suggest you approach him and request a 30 minute sit down or "meeting" with him. Tell him that you want to go over the different test drives and vehicles. The conversation should go more in the line as a business proposition, one that you cannot be biased towards the Camaro. Don't even start out talking about the Camaro. this might educate your dad more about all 3 vehicles and probably realize that the Camaro is a really good vehicle.
For this meeting, you should print out all relevant information for all 3 vehicles and simplify into categories.
Example:
1) Obtainability - Include all discounts and and incentives, packages and value (what you get from what you pay for).
2) Resale - Give stats about resale value, awards given, depreciation.
3) Safety - Include all safety rating information
4) Ease of Drive - Include and give facts about traction, backup sensors, visibility, braking, On-Star or equivalent.
5) Incidentals/Extras - Insurance cost, oil change cost, gas cost, warranty, free road side assistance.
You have to keep in mind that the looks of the Camaro is never a winning argument with mom and dad. Print out all relevant information for all the vehicles During the coversation, and go over all the categories and ask him for his input in every category.
Together, rate the different vehicles and let the best car win. The purpose of the meeting should be lean towards education and not to what you want.
Maybe both of you will learn and make a sound decision together.
