Terrible NJ Drivers what should I do?

Ok so i am driving to a doctor appointment im in the right lane doing about 45-50. All of a sudden the car to my left starts coming over into me. She did not use a blinker and did not even look in her passenger mirror cause theres no way you can miss a bright red camaro thats nearly side by side with you. So first reaction i slam the brakes and move closer to the curb to avoid her slamming into me she was inches away from hitting me when i tapped the curb. It didnt sound so bad but i quickly speed up get behind her write her plate down and then i pulled over to check it out. I get out of my car take a look my rim is shredded bad curb rash on 2/3 of the rim tire is scuffed up and now am hearing very bad brake squeak.

What should i do?
I stopped at the police station that was 1 mile up the road explained to them what happened and they try to get me to fill out a police report for an insurance claim through my own insurance thats not gonna happen. so she give me another choice of taking it to violations in which she would get summoned and we would both have to plea our cases to the judge.

I think i should track down her license plate and tell her to either pay for my rim or i take her to court.

Some input would be nice and if anybody knows how i can track down a plate that would be great

thanks
