That is only reliable if you use non synthetic oil.. Synthetic only gets contaminated by metals and can go as long as it doesn't evaporate to low..However I change it every 10,000 miles or so just to be on the safe side. About a month or two after the "change oil" gauge on the pontiac tells me to.
