Fuel economy values are calculated before sales begin for the model year. The total amount of the tax is determined later and is based on the total number of gas guzzler vehicles that were sold that year. It is assessed after production has ended for the model year and is paid by the vehicle manufacturer or importer.
Based on the EPAs formula, the SS gets the weighted average fuel economy of about 19 mpg. That means a $2100.00 gas guzzler tax.
Somehow I think there is a missing link though. The Chally pilots are saying that the R/T, that gets very close fuel economy scores as the SS do not have to pay the tax, but the SRT8 does have to pay the tax.
I sure hope that I am wrong and that someone can clarify.

That has to be the dumbest, stupidest, most ridiculous equation I've ever seen....which may be about right for the EPA!!
But I think I read the SRT8 is 13-18mpg and gets hit with only a $2,XXX guzzler tax. Need more input.........
