I hear ya Dragoneye, if you look at the Vette it makes 400+ HP and still gets 18/28 in the highway, if I remember right, and that's more than many V6's and not far behind some I-4's (while they make alot less power and torque).
It seems, the most efficient high horsepower engines are V8 while low HP V8's don't make sense because V6 or I-4's can do that job with better efficiency.
Take the EVO, sure it makes 300+ HP with a turbo I-4 but it gets like 18/24 which is worse than the Vette while it makes 100+ more HP. Now, for the size of course you probably don't want (and weight) a V8 in a car like the EVO but it sure shows how efficient V8's have become (GM V8's that is).
