Court supervision is a good thing for those who are getting their first ticket, or first ticket in a long time. Costs a little more, but 90 days after paying, no other citations, the one written goes away. Nothing else need be done.



40 plus in Illinois can land you in jail! Also, depending upon traffic, can be written as reckless. 40 plus carries a bond of $205 and is a must appear violation. It's not something you want to do in Illinois.


BTW, our fines go up in September. The basic $75 fine for speeding, 1-20 over, will be $120. Seatbelts go up from $55 to $65 IIRC.





In Illinois, no insurance is a minimum $200 fine/bond and is a must appear violation. We also get to tow the car, if we wish.

That said, if the person I stop isn't being a dumbass, can't find their insurance, but I believe they have it, sometimes I'll write the insurance ticket too. Why? Even though they might have to come back to court, if they provide proof of insurance dated before the date of the ticket, it gets dropped. I say might have to come back, because due to where they might live, our States Attorney is pretty cool about letting people sometimes fax proof from a lawyer's office, or something of that nature.

I know he could have taken me to jail and he made me aware of that fact. He let me go because I had a perfect driving record and had all my paperwork and was polite... It's a $505 fine and if I choose to I could just pay the fine and do online traffic school and get the points. I chose to get a lawyer and go to court to see if they would reduce the fine and not give me the points. I will probably still have to do traffic school which is not a bad thing. I will get my results from the lawyer in the next few days. I just dont want my insurance to go up and I know for me I wont be driving like that ever again!!
