I've done this against a cop, once, in my Stang. I actually rolled down the window first and asked him if he would allow me to race him, he just laughed (well, actually it was more of a faint smirk) and shook his head no, but when the light turned green I punched it anyway. However, I was careful not to make the tires squeal or the tail waggle (which is not easy in my car), and he didn't do anything but catch up and then speed away from me. I just stayed at the limit and eventually lost sight of him. I'm in MD by the way, and I don't know if this story means anything, but I thought I would throw it out there.
