I use 18" for autocross tires.
fronts are 18X11 with 315/30/18, rear are 18X12 with 335/30/18. Hoosire A6 tires.
They do stick out about an inch.
I had to do a LOT of work to make these work.
The knuckle on the front spindle had to be ground down (where the bolt goes for adjusting camber). The front was easy.
The rear: I had to raise the car 1/4" (was lowered 1 1/4"). had to modify the lower control arm as it hits the inside lip of the wheel when at the apex of the corner.
18's - especially WIDE 18's are the way to go. Turn in is quick. The lower profile tire makes the rear gearing like 3.88's. I havn't seen any understeer with this setup on the autocross track. I have only run 1 event with these tires/wheels so far.
