NOT true. You only use 2.5oz of the additive and 1 bottle (1 quart) of fluid. It all depends on how reasonable your GM parts counters are on costs. The ones in Wichita are ridiculous and I paid just under $50 for one bottle each of fuid and additive.
As far as whether to use the GM or aftermarket fluid, here's a post where I was wondering just that and why I decided to go with the GM stuff:

I forget what the torque is for the drain & fill plugs, do a search though and it should come up.
