Obviously there are different brands, but there are also different kinds of polish. Leaving out stuff like metal polish, you're gonna have a spectrum of polishes that are complimented by various grades of polishing pads.
Polishes can range from VERY aggressive, noticeably gritty compounds, down to finishing and finessing products with a whole range in between. Along with that the pads range in degrees of cut as well so between your selection of pads and polishes you an endless possibility of combinations to get you the desired result.
