Rim and tire question need help

I am looking to buy a new set of rims and tires for my car. Looking at style and prices I have two options.
1) A forge rim that has wheel with a width of 8.5 front and 10 rear to accomodate (recomended tires front 265/40 r20 rear 305/35 r20) price of rim set rims is $2,600 . This is my fav style.
2) A 3 piece rim that has wheel with a width of 9.0- 9.5 front and 10.5-11 rear to accomodate (recomended tires front 275/40 r20 rear 315/35 r20) price of rim set rims is $5,500. Like style almost equal.
we plan on putting on nitto street legal drag.
The car is at 550 rwhp and 526 lbs torque we would like to have better hookup for 1/4 mile racing. Which tire width whould be optimal for traction grip for racing with this hp and torque? Do I have to stay within recomened size tire and what is the danger going outside recomended size tire for rim width? For cost benifit analysis would benifit of increased size tire on racing time hook up worth the cost for almost double cost of rim?( what would realistic improvement in 1/4 time bc of better traction?)
