The Barret-Jackson stereotype has etched itself into pretty much every mind. When people think muscle car, they think of middle-aged guy with a big sense of nostalgia. And when they think new age muscle car, they think middle-guy with a big sense of nostalgia that can't afford to upkeep a classic or already has one but drives it seldom.
To me, Camaro is a car for everyone. Who cares how old you are, if you're an enthusiast, buy it. God knows more 48 year old guys know more about Camaros and are more deserving of them than some 18 year old kid who only wants it for the image, and that's coming from me, I'm only 21. Then again, there is something epic and very novel of a young, good-lookin' guy rolling up in a muscle car... that's basically the image they tried to market in the 60's - The Hollywood image. Remember that old GTO commercial? And all the pop culture material revolving the 'cool kids in highschool and their Camaros and Mustangs'?
There's a side to both agegroups when it comes to these cars...
The older muscle maniac: has a passion, knows the car, loves it for what it is and is well-respected for it.
The young, bad-boy: has the spitting image for the ideal driver, knows what he wants, goes for it no matter what.
I say both older guys and young alike are perfect candidates for the new Camaros... as long as the older guys act their age and the younger guys drive and think responsibly. I am similarly glad, however, that they are trying to market this towards younger folks a little. Us Gen Y's never had a truly powerful muscle car we could afford brand new until now, it's our turn to build memories we can dwell on in our 40's and 50's. You baby boomers always complain about how the young kids like these imports, but honestly it's all we could afford! XD ... ... until now.
