I did this same thing since my dual resonators wouldn't clear the brace. I found that on a hard take off the car was hard to hold straight. That is when I figured the frame/body was flexing excessively. I took the factory bracket and had 1" spacers welded to on both sides and reinstalled to clear the pipes. This worked and cured the flex on hard take offs. So the lesson I learned is the bracket does have a purpose and should never be removed permanately. The pipes still would sometimes bounce down and hit the bracket since I only left a quarter inch of clearance so I had my exhaust shop build a brace off the bracket to secure the pipes and now the system is perfect.
