Maybe you should not have aired your laundry here.

If I am guilty of neglecting this student’s education, then I would be the first one to say that I should be taken to task. However, I don't believe that I have. I have offered many opportunities for improvement, from after school tutoring, extra assignments, make-up/re-do assignment/assessments. And I continue to offer them. As I mentioned in the original post, I know that this student is smart and fully capable of being successful in my class and more importantly outside of my class and in the world. However, he currently seems to be more interested in being the class clown then pushing himself to reach his full potential.

As I previously stated, it is my hope that after his visit to the Dean’s office, his behavior will change and I won’t have to go any further up the steps of the discipline model, and my car can stay safe. I believe that both can happen, if someone can get through to him. I obviously cannot. I have tried. Now I am hanging my hopes on the next step, the Dean’s. They deal with discipline issues on a daily basis, and I’m sure their ‘toolbox’ of skills to help these students is larger than mine.

One of the most important life lessons that I have learned is that I am not an expert at everything. There is no shame in asking for help. That is what I am doing. I was originally going to ask the Deans for help for class clown behavior issues, but now have added dealing with inappropriate threats to the list.

And to those that suggest violence is the answer, it's not. Yes, I agreed with the poster that said people should carry mace for protection, but that is much different then aggressively seeking revenge.

O.K. I have now stepped off my soapbox.

(Yes there was another teacher in the hall--and his original behavior issue was 'class clown' behavior, but it was after I was trying to confront that issue, that it was moved up to a more serious issue. If I didn't have a car that stood out so much, I do not know what he would have done. Would he have threatened me differently? Would he not have been able to come up with a threat so fast? Would he have just listened? I don't know, no one does. This doesn't mean that I will stop driving my car--then he will think he won. But I do believe that if someone else can get through to him it is in everyone's best interest, his, mine, Bumblebees, and society)
