If I do end up with the 1SS, one of my first "projects" will be to install a USB port. I'm fairly certain that the mounting spot is still there and I doubt that they'd turn it off in the deck/computer. Since it's the same radio as the other cars, there's no reason it shouldn't work with a simple wire-up.

My HHR 1LT didn't come with the Steering wheel radio controls, but I bought the parts from GM Parts Direct and installed them myself, and it works fine, the wiring harnass was already there all I needed to do was plug it up after swapping two wires on the existing cruise control harnass. so you may be correct about just geting the parts for the USB and hooking them up..
