What attracts me the most about the Z28, is that you get a more beefed up engine, upgraded suspension, better brakes, stronger trani and gearbox, better clutch, better cooling system and SC, all done by manufacture under warranty. To pull that through yourself (including forged engine) and labor, that's minimum of $20K on the top of a $36K car without warranty.
Otherwise I would get an SS and put a Whipple on it.
Ahh, gotcha. You're right, a Camaro Z28, much like a Shelby GT500, will be hard to beat in terms of a complete package, and it includes a warranty. Though, again like the Shelby GT500, I'm willing to bet you could add a big Whipple to the Z28 and make some serious power gains over the stock setup!
