There are like 3 areas where the traffic will occur at around 4:30-6pm but worst will be entering EP. If need be you guys could take the 375 Loop once you enter EP that bypasses the city all together and takes you through Fort Bliss training ranges, straight up the Franklin mountains and connects you back on the I-10 to Las Cruces. That may save you about 45min. And may be even a slight scenic route that this area can offer.
