I think it has to be priced higher than the Vette, since it will probably be a better car in almost every way except fuel economy. If they undercut the Corvette, 'vette sales will take a hit unless they dilute the Z28, in which case they'll have a PR nightmare from all the enthusiasts that have been demanding a Z28 for years. The best course of action for GM is for the Z28 to cost a bit over 50k.
And in the end, if you can afford a 45k car you can probably afford a 50k car too.

I highly doubt this new Z28 with 556hp is going to be a better car than a C6. 2 more seats perhaps but, that's it. The current Corvette is a lot of car for the price. Those who really want a near Corvette fast (not handling) vehicle with the back seats with a limited production run will get a Z at 50K plus markup tag. In that, you are right.
