You are exactly right. Unfortunately not enough people know their rights and dealership would rather get the full book of doing a repair than they would the half book of warranty work.

Some things it is a no brainer, the cam he used as an example would be one. You changed the internal function of the engine and now things are bad, short answer is why did you dig into the engine.

For things like cold air intakes, exhaust systems that retain factory emissions, wheels and tires, and other such bolt ons, the obligation of proof is on the dealership and 99 out of 100, there is no link. As soon as a factory or manufacturer offers similar equipment to be installed, that last 1 of 100 is gone because you to say that the after market part cause the failure would be to admit yours was of inferior performance and they aren't gonna let that be the image they put out.
