I suppose I'm "old school", but I've always followed the same routine;
For the first 500 mi.; no hard accelerations, vary the speeds at which I drive (no sustained speed for any length of time), no "speed shifting"; and an oil/filter change after 500 mi.
I've been told the above isn't necessary with "todays engines", but it's not a problem (for me) to follow these few steps and give myself "piece of mind".
