Maybe so, but those fluids were most likely a little bit thinner than their GM engineered counterparts.
I am not a mechanical engineer, but I would tend to believe that a fluid that is thicker might provide more shock absorption between the gear teeth in the tranny and between metal contact points in the engine.
Did they analyze the oils to see what the viscosity difference was?
I'll leave that extra 7HP on the table and have my car last to 200K miles.
EDIT: I KNOW that synthetics offer much better lubrication and higher temps and at longer oil/fluid change intervals, but what I am making a point about is: 1)thinner fluids(than designed for) will almost always make more HP because of less resistance 2) don't ALWAYS believe what you see/read!
