It is, but the downsides of drunk drivign al also promoted every day. Essentially, right now we give people a slap on the wrist for drunk driving. I don't want to get too much into politics, but I'm a Libertarian. I believe we should be free to do whatever we want to ourselves. However, when it impacts other people...the penalties should be harsh enough to make people think about doing it in the first place.
Would you drink and drive if you knew that you would spend 1 month in jail? That after the third time you could spend 1 year or 5 years in jail?
The person that hit and killed my girlfriend served all of 3 months in jail. For KILLING someone. He as much as went and bought a gun and put it to her head and pulled the trigger when he got in the car to drive drunk. For those of you that think drunk driving isn't a problem...remember that.
