Like I said, I have no first hand knowledge of this so, I'm just going from what I read on the "official" documentation site. If a GM tech were to do a retro-fit, they'd have to remove the dash. There may be a better, less invasive procedure or technique. It might also depend on where/how you're mounting the HUD. The factory location is above the speedometer/tach/info display, on the dash.
Hopefully, you can come up with a much easier solution that will give the people who are wanting to do this more confidence in their ability to pull it off. Good luck with the install.

being that my dad was a gm tech for many years, they advise dash removal because it is "simple and easy" for the tech it is a no brainer remove the dash for the easiest access and charge 5 hours. most techs with a brain and they arent really many at least with my experience, they will look at the job and figure out an easy way to do it. with that being said im sure ofer figured out that with the right tools a little patients and a couple of different positions, maybe all we have to do is remove one of the hvac ducts and you have total room, but you might have to bend something out of the way, i dont know i havent done it yet so i cant tell you as soon as i get my parts ill post about it but im sure ofer has a simple and easy soultion that he will share when he gets some time to do a write up
