Well a crash is a crash if it's going to happen it'll happen. I'm 21 and I understand how you want a Camaro for a car (hell I still haven't gotten one for myself) but being in school I wouldn't want one. The reason being is that you may be a responsible driver but what about everyone else at the school? Many kids don't respect other people's property and will mess with your ride. I drove my mom's 89 blazer with 5 speed while I was in high school and some kids would screw with it all the time. Not to mention getting out was a nightmare since nobody really followed any kind of law when it came to getting out of the parking lot. In other words, I would just want some kind of a beater car until I got out of school. With that being said, the camaro's good brakes and good steering (my gf's got one that I drive occasionally) can help you avoid an accident.
Hey if your mom is concerned about the visibility tell her you want to get a motorcycle, it'll be cheaper, more fun, and better on gas! That's what I ended up getting as a graduation present and I still don't have a car. It's not the ideal situation (cold weather is bad, but not as bad as pouring rain), but I'm happy for the time being.
Also I would say no matter what you buy, you're going to have blindspots, the Camaro's are pretty big, but the more you drive it, the more you'll adapt to it.
