Fix it all with an 8 team playoff series.
First four games are the top 4 bowl games (Orange, Fiesta, Rose and Sugar) and the winner gets to claim their right to those titles. Match up would be 1 vs 5, 2 vs 6, etc or 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc...either way...I like the 1 vs 8 as that would put 4 vs 5 in a game!
Anyway...all 4 winners go to the next level, sort of a final 4 to play in the BSC Championship Bowl.
All in all, it would make 2 teams play 2 more games than normal, 2 more teams play 1 more game than normal....other 4 teams (all losers in the bowl games) would play the same amount of games as today!
Then all this who should be who shouldn't be in the championship game will be decided between the best 8 teams based on BCS format!
Leave all the other bowl games out there for other teams to play in...still nothing wrong with that thought process. Everyone shoots for the BCS Championship Series this way....make the top 8 and you are in (sorta like the NCAA field for basketball).
There would be some complaints on the #7 and #8 teams but if it's based on BCS rankings, then it is what it is...schedule harder teams if you want a shot a the BCS!
The money generated from a format like this would double or triple the current system as you still have the same bowl games plus add in another round of games. Those games (4 big bowl games) would be played where they currently are now, the other 3 games (final 4 and championship) on neutral fields selected ahead of time (like the super bowl).
Play the first 4 games on 1 Jan, second round the next weekend and championship 2 weeks later (gotta build the hype!)...done by 1 Feb!
Oh yeah...eliminate conference championships to make up the 1 extra game for most teams...2 will still play 1 extra game.
Easy fix...easy money and everyone is happy!
